January 2026 We play this course every year when visiting the Big Island and are very familiar with it. Following the recent updates, the course is in excellent condition; the greens are true and the fairways are well maintained. As well, the views at the top are fantastic. One drawback was the practice range. Upon checking in an hour early, we were informed that the range was out of commission, either removed or under renovation. The front desk attendant advised that the Mauna Kea range could be used and that transportation could be arranged. However, when we raised this with the bag staff, our request was largely disregarded. Additionally, at a $200 greens fee, we would expect the golf carts to be in better condition. While we genuinely enjoy the course, the overall atmosphere and level of engagement from some employees has caused us to reconsider returning in the future. 4 stars for the course, 2 for the staff.
I played a round here yesterday sort of last minute and I'm really glad I did! Staying at the Marriott got me a nice discount so my round was reasonable playing around 3pm. The pace of play was excellent, which was great for me since I was playing by myself. Just about every hole seemed to have water views. I think I might have taken as many pictures as I hit shots because the scenery was amazing. The course layout was interesting and had some significant elevation changes throughout. Since this was my first time playing, I really had to look at the course map and use my rangefinder to assess where to hit my drives as some of the fairways were tight. The greens overall were in pretty good shape. On the front nine they seemed to be faster, and I mean really fast. On the back, the greens were in a little better condition and not quite as fast but certainly not slow (more my ideal). Because of all of the slope that the greens had, if you don't place your ball close to the pin, it makes for some very interesting reads. The fairways were in okay shape. Some were beaten up in spots but overall were good. Fortunately I didn't find a bunker all day but did hit a few practice shots out of a couple. They were a bit thin and not much sand to work with but not a problem. You just have to adjust your shot accordingly. The golf carts looked pretty worn but functioned just fine. They did have GPS which was nice. Overall, I highly recommend this course!
Played: March 2024 Green Fee: $195 Included - Golf Cart - Range Balls/Grass Range - Full Practice Area - Two Packs of TaylorMade Tour Response Balls Although you don’t get close to the water, the views more than make up for it. The course is in really good condition. Greens are very difficult - they roll true and feature a lot of adulation. With all that’s included, the condition of the course, and the stunning views - the price is very fair.
